Mkomazi National Park is a beautiful wilderness area in northeastern Tanzania, near the border with Kenya. It’s about 3 hours drive from Arusha. The park covers 3,245 square kilometers and has dry savannah, bush lands, and rugged hills.
Visitors can see animals like elephants, giraffes, and rare species like black rhinos and African wild dogs. The park is also great for bird watching, with over 450 bird species. The Usambara Mountains offer a stunning backdrop to the park’s landscape.
Mkomazi is less visited than other parks, offering a peaceful and authentic safari experience. It’s perfect for those looking to explore off the beaten path and see unique wildlife in a pristine setting.
Morning
We start our day with a game drive in the savannah areas. We look for elephants and giraffes eating from acacia trees. We might see herds of oryx and lesser kudu, which are special to this area. As we drive, we keep an eye out for lions resting in the shade.
Afternoon
After lunch, we explore more of the park. We drive to areas where we might spot the rare black rhinos, but they’re hard to find. We also look for African wild dogs, another rare species found here. Throughout the day, we see many colorful birds like the ostrich and the kori bustard.
Evening
As the day ends, we leave the park with unique memories. We’ve seen animals that are hard to find in other parks, like oryx and lesser kudu. We’ve enjoyed beautiful views of the dry landscape and the Usambara Mountains. It’s been a full day of seeing special wildlife and enjoying the quiet beauty of Mkomazi National Park.
